When Am I Paid?

Monthly

Faculty, Staff (full-time), Graduate Assistants (10 pay), and Summer assignments

Faculty are generally considered to be 10-month employees (August - May), 10 monthly payments.  They may elect to have their paychecks split over 12 payments (10/12); they will then receive two pay checks in June.

Some deductions (employee elected premiums for insurance, American Fidelity, and other products) may be double deducted for 10-month employees.  A 10 monthly payment will have double deductions in May (pays for June & July) and August (pays for August & September).  A 10/12 will have a double deduction in June (pays for July & August).

Monthly pay dates are generally on the last working day of the month.

Mid-month

Adjunct, Intersession, Add Pay, and Overload

Adjunct faculty and Overload receive payments on the mid-month payroll. For the Fall semester, September, October, November, and December.  For the Spring semester, February, March, April, and May. For the Summer semester, July and August. Mid-month is generally on the 15th.

Bi-weekly

Part-time Faculty and Staff, and Student Work Study

Pay dates are generally every two weeks on a Friday.

What is Overtime/Compensatory Time?

When a non-exempt employee (as defined by Northeastern State University policy) works more than 40 hours in a work week, they will earn compensatory time at the rate of one and one-half hours for each hour worked over 40 hours. Compensatory time will accrue until 40 hours are banked. Employees are paid overtime for compensatory time in excess of 40 hours.

Upon separation from employment or moving to an exempt position, any accrued compensatory or overtime is paid out.

What Is OTRS?

Oklahoma Teachers Retirement System was established by state statute. Membership may be mandatory (for classified employees) or optional (non-classified). Withholdings and contributions are based on a fiscal (July - June) year. Salary earnings and fringe benefits such as health, vision, life and long term disability are used as the basis for withholdings and contributions.

If an employee has membership, they are responsible for $1,750 in withholdings per year. After the first $1,750, NSU will contribute on the employees's behalf.
