A: During your enrollment session, you will take your placement test(s) if any are required. If you do not require placement testing you will skip this step. Then you will have a meeting with a Student Success Specialist who will introduce you to the general education requirements and course scheduling options.
A: NSU requires that you have a minimum ACT score of 19 in each subject area (English, Math, Science, and Reading). If you fail to meet the minimum requirement, we require you to take remedial classes (zero-level, not-for-credit). These remedial classes do not count toward getting a degree. In an effort to give students the chance to skip these remedial classes and move right into the college level math, english, and reading courses we administer placement exams for those areas. If you make a high enough score in each of the areas, we will let you bypass the remedial class. If you do not make the required score, you will be required to take the appropriate remedial class(es). For more information contact Testing Services.
A: Yes. Visit the Testing Services' website for resources that will help you prepare.
A: When you arrive at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK for your initial enrollment appointment you should bring a photo ID. You should also bring any letters that Northeastern has sent you, especially the postcard you received that serves as a temporary visitor parking permit. Other than that, you can bring whatever and whomever you like that will help in the enrollment process.
A: Typically the process takes about 3-4 hours. There are many variables that can affect the amount of time that you will spend at your enrollment appointment. Placement exams are un-timed and typically take about 30 minutes per test. Your enrollment session with a Student Success Specialists takes about 30-45 minutes or longer. On the day of your enrollment appointment, there are several tasks that you will be taking care. For example, obtain your NSU student ID card, talk with University Housing about living arrangements, follow up with Student Financial Services, purchase your parking permit and textbooks, etc.
A: Maybe for a semester or two but not for your entire degree. Our "non-traditional" class offerings are increasing, but as of right now you can not complete a degree entirely online, at night, etc. These non-traditional course offerings were created for the purpose of supplementing the traditional course schedule and allowing greater flexibility for students who are unable to attend during traditional class times.
A: You can enroll until classes start. The course selection gets progressively limited as time rolls on. So, if you have specific schedule requirements, enroll as early as you can.
A: In an effort to help students plan the cost of their college education, the state Board of Regents developed the Guaranteed Tuition Rate option. This option allows students to pay a slightly inflated amount for tuition, but lock that amount in for eight consecutive semesters (4 years). There are some stipulations and other information that you should be aware of, so watch the mail for the information you will be receiving about this alternative. If you still have questions after reading the material that you receive from NSU, please feel free to call the Business Affairs office for more information.
