Program Overview and Eligibility

Free Dell Laptops and Educational Supplies for Eligible NSU Single Mothers!

NSU & the Women’s Foundation of Oklahoma: Enabling Self-Efficacy in Single Mothers program is designed to educate and prepare single mothers with strategies and tools for making informed choices regarding their academic careers and personal lives. Workshops and one-on-one consultations provided by Business Affairs, Academic Advising, Career Services, the NSU Library, and NSU Information Technology that support self-efficacy may count toward this program.

Upon completion of the program, students meeting the following requirements may receive a new Dell Laptop at no cost and/or other educational supplies. Program completion deadlines: December 15, 2020 and April 30, 2021.

Eligibility Guidelines:

•Single mother currently enrolled at Northeastern State University
•Eligible for federal Pell grants and may not receive funds from sources other than Financial Aid (i.e. other grant-funded programs, tribal support, additional scholarships, etc.). 
•Minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA upon start of and completion of the program
•Completion of 7 workshops and/or one-on-one consultations to receive a laptop
•Completion of 3 workshops and/or one-on-one consultations to receive a complete set of general educational supplies (backpack, notebooks, pens/pencils, etc.)
•Agreement to respond to a student survey after completion of the program

Eligible Activities

All activities must align with the following guidelines: 

Offered by a Northeastern State University office / department / employee

•Available to any/all students upon request
•Designed to assist students with academic, career, personal development, or success skills
•Students must complete a minimum of 7 eligible workshops or one-on-one consultations to complete the program and receive a Dell laptop, or 3 to receive a complete set of general educational supplies.

Students may attend multiple workshops / one-on-one programs offered by the same office if they are separate appointments. Additional workshops or events offered by NSU not listed here may count with proof of attendance / participation.

LASSI ASSESSMENT

30 minutes

The LASSI is a 60-item assessment regarding use of learning and study strategies related to skill, will and self-regulation. Areas of assessment include: anxiety, concentration, motivation, test strategies, time management, and more.

This workshop includes the assessment and a brief consultation with NSU's Student Success Coordinator to review results.

ACADEMIC REVIEW

30 minutes

Proactive discussion with Academic Advisor regarding academic plan, degree audit review, and post-graduation plan. This may not be an enrollment session.

CAREER & MAJOR ADVICE

30 minutes - 1 hour

Schedule time with a career counselor to discuss one or more of the following topics.

•Focus2 or MyMajors Assessment review

FINANCIAL AID REVIEW

30 minutes

Review of individual financial aid package and/or loan repayment education.

One-on-one workshops. Group workshops offered to university students are also eligible.
