Digital Badge Criteria/Metadata

A digital badge is a web-based artifact that contains metadata that documents students’ completion of a credential and which can be shared and verified electronically.  The following criteria are required for a digital badge to be added to the state-wide digital badge platform.  Note: Information not included in this request may cause a delay in processing.

A. Digital Badge Name: (this is the title you will want on your badge).
B. Digital Badge Credential Type:
C. Badge Narrative Description. Clearly state the workforce critical skills and/or industry-specific competencies being addressed by the digital badge (Maximum 500 characters).  This narrative should answer the question “What is the individual capable of doing with this badge?” You can use the catalog description if available.
D. Program URL. The URL is a web link to contextual information where the end-user could learn more complete details about the digital badge.  The URL should be a public-facing link and not behind a login or paywall.  (NOTE: The end-user will see “View additional information.”)
E. Searchable Skill Tags: Skill tags are 1-4 word descriptions of the skills, competencies, or tools demonstrated by the earner once they have earned the badge.  Searchable skill tags allow an end-user to find badge earners with specific workforce critical skills or industry-specific competencies for potential employment or internships. Provide a minimum of five keywords/phrases associated with the skills and competencies acquired through completion of the credential. e.g. Classroom Management, Analyzing and Presenting Data, Microsoft Excel, or similar skill sets.
F. Earning Criteria: Digital badges may be awarded based on earners meeting specific criteria.  From the options below, select the earning criteria/criterion from the list below. You can also include a URL to the criteria, or a link to additional information such as a youtube video, organization website, etc. (check all that apply and provide the earning criteria for each selected, up to 500 characters).
.
G. Learning Outcomes - Provide clear, concise, and measurable learning outcomes students will gain through participation in activities and/or completion of projects and/or courses work needed to earn the Digital badge.
H. Type of digital badge: Select the type of digital badge being awarded.

K. Faculty and Staff Qualifications: Faculty and staff issuing digital badges must have sufficient knowledge and expertise in the skills, competencies, and discipline to provide oversight of the criteria required to earn the Digital badge.  Provide a summary (or attach a copy of a resume/vitae) of the faculty and/or staff educational background, non-collegiate and collegiate experience, and research and service interests and contributions, which relate to the digital badge.
L. A digital badge may represent the completion of a cohesive set of multiple credentials (i.e. micro-credential, certificate, academic degree program) or multiple digital badges.  If applicable, indicate how the requested micro-credential aligns with other credentials. Clearly define recommended next steps for students to progress to the completion of additional digital badges and/or credentials.
M. Has the badge been approved by your direct supervisor and account sponsor? Please provide their names below.
