Advising
YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. WE HAVE ANSWERS.
Whether you’re an incoming freshman, a senior about to graduate with your college degree, or a new transfer student, your Academic Advisor will help you define and achieve your academic goals at NSU.
The University Advising Center and College Advising Centers on our campuses coordinate advising and academic support services for all undergraduate students at NSU. Academic advisors support student learning, facilitate academic exploration, teach students about degree requirements, institutional policies and procedures, university structure and culture, and refer them to campus support services.
Advisors support student academic success and help students make reasonable progress toward degree completion, as well help students become effective decision makers in and out of the classroom.
Whether it's a policy you don't understand or a resource you're not sure how to find, advisors can help.
How Advising Works:
All students are assigned an Academic Advisor based on last name and major declaration status. First-time Freshman or "Undeclared" (not officially declared a major) will see their advisor in the University Advising Center located in the CASE Building.
Students with declared majors will see their advisor in the college of their major.
Not sure of you major declaration status or who your advisor is? Open your Degree Works Audit. The header lists information including your major & program, and your academic advisor
is indicated by (Primary) next to their name.
Can't find your advisor? Call the University Advising Center, 918-444-3253 or send us an email at: advising@nsuok.edu.
Advising is required at certain times. All First-Time Freshmen are required to meet with an advisor at least once per semester - however, we encourage more! Students must also meet with an advisor to Declare (changing your major/minor) and Seniors will have a hold after 90 credits has been completed to talk about final coursework and plan for graduation - and possibly life after!
