Major Declaration & Major Change

Major Declaration & Major Change

Transfer and returning students are encouraged to declare their intended major upon applying to the university. Declared students who wish to change their major should visit with their assigned Academic Advisor to initiate that process.

All new freshmen enter the university as undeclared. During their first semester at NSU, freshmen enrolled in UNIV 1003 "University Strategies" will explore major options. Freshmen have the opportunity to declare their major after mid-terms of their first semester or at any point afterwards. All students are encouraged to declare their major before they earn 45 hours. Undeclared students who wish to officially declare their major should visit with their assigned Academic Advisor to initiate the process.

All undeclared students are required to schedule an appointment with their Academic Advisor each semester until they declare their major. Once declared, students will be required to periodically meet with their assigned Academic Advisor to ensure proper progress toward their degree. Appointments are strongly encouraged.
