In addition to mandatory fees, academic service fees are used to support enhancements in instruction and technology. Each college also has certain courses that may require special services, supplies, or equipment. Costs for these are not normally covered by tuition, mandatory fees, or departmental operating budgets; therefore, the cost is incurred by the student enrolled in the specific course. See below descriptions for these course-specific costs.

College of Liberal Arts Fee Supports guest speakers, tutors, teaching assistants, student research activities, student presentations and travel costs, standardized examinations, surveys used for instructional purposes, etc. It is also used to purchase equipment for instructional purposes, software licenses, maintenance contracts and repair costs, and enhancements of instructional space. These fees may also be used to purchase consumable laboratory supplies and art supplies.

Music Enhancement Fee - Provides funding for music courses which improve professional opportunities, the development of student professional interests and capabilities, and support improvement in the collection and communication of information.

Private Music Instruction Fee - This fee directly funds the additional cost of instruction required in the private classroom setting.

Semi-Private Music Fee - This fee directly funds the additional cost of instruction required in the semi-private classroom setting.

University Strategies Fee This fee provides for supplemental materials including instructional materials, work books, and copies for the required orientation program as well as online orientation technology.

College of Business Fee - Supports student learning within the College by funding guest speakers, tutors, teaching assistants, student research activities, student presentation and travel costs, standardized examinations, surveys used for instructional purposes, etc. In addition funds are used by the College of Business and Technology to provide personnel and programming to further develop student professionalism in direct support of student learning within the College.

 

 

College of Education Fee - Provides funding for the College of Education for tutors, teaching assistants, student research, student presentation costs, surveys, and other special instructional costs within the College. Other benefits included are purchase of furniture for instructional purposes, software licenses, equipment maintenance contracts and repair costs, and enhancement of special instruction spaces. Direct financial support of the College of Education is provided for personnel and programming to further develop student professionalism.

Ropes Course Fee - This fee is assessed to fund the maintenance and upkeep of the ropes course as well as providing for specialized instructor training.

College of Science and Health Professions Fee Provides classroom materials for laboratory and classroom instruction in the science and health professions. Other examples of anticipated expenditures would include guest speakers, tutors, teaching assistants, student research activities, student presentation and travel costs, standardized examinations, surveys used for instructional purposes, etc. This fee also directly supports student learning within the College by the purchase of equipment for instructional purposes, software licenses, equipment maintenance contracts and repair costs, enhancement of instructional space, such as dust collection systems or air handling system modification, construction cost of space used for instructional purposes, etc.

Nutritional Sciences Fee - This fee provides support to the Nutritional Sciences program including accreditation expenses and ongoing maintenance of equipment and the Foods Lab.

Medical Lab Science Enhancement Fee - This fee provides funding for MLS courses which will improve the student retention and graduation rates, improve professional opportunities, develop student professional interests and capabilities, improve the collection and communication of information. 

Nursing Enhancement Fee Undergraduate - Provides funding for Nursing courses which improves professional opportunities, development of student professional interests and capabilities, and improvement in the collection and communication of information.

Nursing Enhancement Fee Graduate - Provides funding for graduate Nursing courses which improves professional opportunities, develops student professional interests and capabilities, improves the collection and communication of information.

Speech Language and Pathology Enhancement Fee Undergraduate - Provides funding for Speech Language Pathology courses which improves professional opportunities, development of student professional interests and capabilities, and the collection and communication of information.

Speech Language and Pathology Enhancement Fee Graduate - Provides funding for Speech Language Pathology courses which allows improved professional opportunities, development of student professional interests and capabilities, and improvement in the collection and communication of information.

Physician Assistant Studies Clinical Fee - This fee provides funding to cover the costs associated with students in the Physician Assistant program, specifically BLS and ACLS training, PACKRAT examination, clinical rotation examination, clinical experience logging, and malpractice insurance.

Physician Assistance Program Application Fee-The fee will be used to offset the costs of recruitment and admissions process currently being absorbed by the limited operational budget.  The fee will also cover the institutional membership to Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) and costs to advertise the program to prospective students. This fee will additionally cover costs associated with open Q&A sessions.

Occupational Therapy Application Fee-This fee will be used to support the OT program Community Advisory Committee, Applicant Interviews, Marketing materials, etc.

Respiratory Care Therapy Clinic Fee-To cover student fees associated with the RCT program for both the didactic and clinical phases.

College of Extended Learning Fee - Provides funding for College of Extended Learning courses which will improve student retention and graduation rates, improve professional opportunities, develop student professional interests and capabilities, and improve the collection and communication of information.

College of Optometry Fee - Used in direct support of student learning within the College. Examples of anticipated expenditures would include the purchase of equipment for instructional purposes, software licenses, equipment, consumable laboratory supplies and materials.

Optometry Application Fee -The revenue from this fee will support expenses related to recruitment in efforts to increase diverse, qualified applicants. NSUOCO is a member of the Association of Colleges and Schools of Optometry (ASCO) who have developed a five year project to increase the number of qualified optometry school applicants, increase the quality of applicants, increase diversity of applicants, and increase awareness of optometry as a career option among high school students.

Optometry Special Instruction Fee- This fee will support student malpractice insurance, accreditation fees (Accreditation Council on Optometric Education), accreditation site visit expenses, and professional association membership dues (Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry).

Graduate Education Enhancement Fee - This fee supports students in all graduate programs. Funding is used for graduate student research and scholarships, professional development, experimental and immersive learning opportunities, and special education programming.

International Student Fee - This fee provides funding for the additional costs associated with the admission and ongoing student services required by international students.

Academic Enhancement Fee-This fee will provide support for critical workforce needs, other courses in high demand, technology upgrade,  funding for identifying strategic planning initiatives designed to strengthen, direct and further improve academic programs and student experience. 

 

Application Fee An application fee is charged to students once per admission cycle or each time an application is necessary. Revenue collected from the fee directly supports staffing and technology used during the admissions cycle.

Electronic Transcript Fee - This fee provides funding for the administrative costs of providing electronic transcripts.

International Orientation Fee - This fee provides funding for a week long orientation for all new international students to help acclimate them to American life and ensure as successful academic start.

Extra-institutional Learning Fee - Offsets the direct cost of administering departmental examinations and evaluating extra-institutional learning.

Prior Learning Portfolio Fee - This fee offsets the expenses related to conducting assessments of a student's non-classroom experience for college credit.

Remedial Course Fee This fee is to offset the additional funds needed that are associated with the delivery of the remedial classes.
