Job Shadowing

Job Shadowing Career Development Resources | NSU Career Services

Job shadowing is a short-term learning experience that creates an opportunity for students to connect with a professional, ask questions and observe first-hand the duties and work environment of a field that interests them. It is less structured than an internship experience, and is more for observation than for hands-on experience. Job shadowing is a great tool for students unsure of their major or students seeking confirmation regarding a major they have selected.

HANDSHAKE JOB SHADOWING DATABASE

In Handshake, students can access a database of local employers who would love to share their expertise.

  1. Login to Handshake
  2. Complete profile if you have not already done that
  3. Click on the Job Shadowing tab on the upper menu bar

  • What do you like most (and least) about your job?
  • What skills/abilities are most important to succeed in this job?
  • What is your educational background?

  • What courses were most helpful to you and which would you recommend?
  • What is the best way to get started in this field?
  • Do you have any additional advice to help me prepare?
