Circle of Excellence 2016
Dilene Crockett
Associate Professor
College of Business and Technology
Department of Business Administration
Management Program
I believe the best teachers are those who have a genuine interest in their disciplines even a passion for their subjects which drives them to stay current in their fields. One of her students said, I have had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Crockett in both a physical classroom and in an online setting, and I can honestly say that in either setting her ability to teach, communicate, and inspire has been unparalleled by any other teacher I have had. She received excellent student evaluations. Some comments were, She is the best teacher in the MBA program. We only had 6-7 classes but Dr. Crockett usually gives us very useful strategic tips that we can use in the outside world. It's a very comprehensive class and it's one where we have to think from an overall perspective and Dr. Crockett helped us on this.

Assistant Professor
Gregg Wadley College of Science and Health Professions
Department of Natural Sciences
Molecular Biology
In my tenure at NSU, I have worked with 31 undergraduate students, 3 graduate students and a laboratory technician who is an NSU alumni. I have enjoyed working with each one of these students. They have done research with me as part of their "molecular biology" emphasis degree program where students need 5 credit hours of research to graduate. I usually have somewhere between 2-5 students in my laboratory every semester (including summer) doing research. This semester I have 2 undergraduates, 1 graduate student and a technician working on research projects in my laboratory. In summary, I believe the basic research that I am performing at NSU is crucial and will benefit our understanding of cancer cells and their genetic machinery. I am very passionate and committed towards research and this is based on my research funding success, student awards at various presentations and collaboration with scientists across the nation. One of her student said, The lab atmosphere she creates has the perfect balance between rigor and fun, and while she has high expectations for her students, she is very understanding when things do not go as planned.
Christopher Flavin
Assistant Professor
College of Liberal Arts
Department of Languages and Literature
Among his service activities are my ongoing service on the Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee; the NSU Higher Learning Commission Assurance and Documentation Committee; service on the Library Advisory Committee; participation in the Handbook Review Committee convened by Dr. Arant last year; chairing the successful search for an English Education Specialist and Coordinator; chairing the successful search for a rhetorician for the
Broken Arrow Campus; and editing the proceedings from the Visions Conference from 2014-16, which I have also coordinated since its inception in 2013. His services philosophy is do what you can as best you can and take every opportunity to do so. A student said, On a personal level, Dr. Flavin has served beyond 'office-hours' and become a mentor, who is concerned with not only challenging me as a scholar, but genuinely concerned about my future as an academic. The advice and counsel he has given has always been constructive and oriented to bettering me as a scholar and instructor in my field.
