Grants
Grants are based on financial need, and are funds that do not have to be repaid. Students must meet the eligibility requirements to qualify for grants. To apply for all grants, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Textbooks and Federal Student Aid Information
All enrolled students attending NSU are provided a charge account (Talon Charge) to be used at the NSU RiverHawk Shoppes on campus. Talon Charge can only be used to purchase textbooks, educational supplies, and book bags from the RiverHawk Shoppes either at the Tahlequah or Broken Arrow campuses. Our goal is to keep Bursar account balances lower by focusing Talon on items supporting academic success.
The Talon Charge account will open at least 7 days prior to beginning of the term and will remain open for at least 7 days after the term begins. Full time students are granted $800 dollars, and part time students are granted $400 dollars.
Available Grants
Federal Pell Grant
Lifetime Limits for the Pell Grant are limited to 12 full time semesters.
Federal regulations state that a students Pell award amount is locked in at the time of disbursement and therefore cannot be updated after that date. If a student signs a consortium agreement to take courses at another school, NSU must have the approved consortium agreement prior to a students initial disbursement or those hours will not be included in the students Pell Grant calculation.
The Federal Pell Grant is available only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's degree or professional degree, and is based on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and enrollment. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to apply for a Federal Pell Grant. The current maximum Federal Pell Grant for an eligible student is $7,395 per academic year unless enrolled for summer. Please review the Year Round Pell requirements.
Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant
A student who is not eligible for a Pell Grant but whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and died as a result of service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001 may be eligible for this grant. The student must have been less than 24 years old or enrolled in college when the parent or guardian died. The grant award is equal to the amount of a maximum Pell Grant for the award year - not to exceed the cost of attendance for that award year.
Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship
A Pell-eligible student who's parent or guardian dies in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer is eligible to receive a maximum Pell Grant for the award year for which the determination of eligibility is made. A student may be eligible to receive the Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship if:
- The student is eligible for a Pell Grant, and
- The student's parent or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer, and
- The student was less than 24 years of age or enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of his or her parent's or guardian's death.
If you believe that you are eligible for the scholarship, please complete the Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship form and submit it with supporting documentation to Student Financial Services or call 918-444-3456 for more information.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The SEOG is for undergraduate students that have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of zero. Funding for the SEOG grant is limited and awarded to early applicants. The maximum SEOG award is $1002 per academic year. To be eligible for SEOG, you must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant (OTAG)
The OTAG grant is a state funded grant awarded to undergraduate students who have financial need. OTAG grants are awarded to students who are residents of the state, have an EFC of 1700 or less, are enrolled in at least 6 hours, and meet the OTAG deadline. A student must have completed their FAFSA by December 1st for priority consideration. The maximum OTAG award is $1,000 per academic year. (Note: Deadlines subject to change and are set by the Oklahoma State Regents)
