What is Overtime?

When a non-exempt employee (as defined by Northeastern State University policy) works more than 40 hours in a work week, they will earn overtime at the rate of one and one-half hours for each hour worked over 40 hours. Some employees (department specific) are paid overtime on the bi-weekly pay cycle.

What is Compensatory time?

Compensatory time is a form of overtime available for governmental agencies. Instead of paying traditional overtime dollars, you are compensated at a rate of 1 1/2 hours (time and a half) for each hour "worked" over 40 hours in a work week. This comp time is banked for your use as time off, in lieu of taking vacation or personal leave. For any comp time earned during the week while using leave time then it would be earned at a rate of 1.0.

Upon separation from employment or moving to an exempt position, any accrued comp time is paid out.

What Is OTRS?

Oklahoma Teachers Retirement System was established by state statute. Membership may be mandatory (for classified employees) or optional (non-classified). Withholding and contributions are based on a fiscal (July - June) year. Salary earnings and fringe benefits such as health, vision, life and long term disability are used as the basis for withholding and contributions.

If an employee has membership, they are responsible for $1,750 in withholding per year. After the $1,750, NSU will contribute on the employee's behalf.

What is a Timekeeper?

A Timekeeper is a person within a department or area that answers general timekeeping questions; that can make corrections to a timecard; and who conducts general training about time cards, leave, and other payroll questions.
