International Student Health Insurance
At NSU, the well-being of our students is of utmost importance. We have a responsibility to make sure our students are able to access appropriate health services while they live and learn as part of the community. NSU’s Office of International Programs requires all international students on an F-1 or J-1 visa to purchase health insurance while studying in the U.S.Students must purchase their insurance and submit a copy of it to the Office of International Programs (via email or drop off) at the beginning of the semester (or Academic Year) with the following information:
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- Coverage Dates (start dates and end dates) - must be VALID/UNEXPIRED and with one semester coverage at minimum
- Health Insurance Benefits meeting the minimum insurance coverage requirements (See below)
Insurance Coverage Requirements:
- Minimum medical coverage of $100,000 (USD)
- Minimum medical evacuation coverage of $50,000 (USD)
- Minimum repatriation of remains coverage of at least $25,000 (USD)
- The insurance documentation is in English
Insurance Options
Students can purchase insurance from any provider that best fits their needs as long as the above requirements are met. Some insurance providers for international students include:
- Lewermark F-1 Health Insurance
- ISI International Student Health Insurance
- ISO International Student Health Insurance
- Worldtrips International Student Health Insurance
Verification Process
Each semester, the Office of International Programs will ask students to provide copies of their valid health insurance. Students must have health insurance that provides coverage for at least ONE SEMESTER MINIMUM.
Health insurance must be turned in via email to oip@nsuok.edu or drop off at the OIP during regular office hours. Copies will be due within 2 weeks after the beginning of classes each Fall and Spring Semester.
- NOTE: If the student turns in a health insurance copy for the academic year (2 semesters), they will not be required to turn in another copy the following semester. Verification will be required the following year.
Students who fail to provide health insurance within two weeks of the start of the semester and/or provide health insurance with inaccurate/lack of information will result in a placement a hold on their student account. Holds will be lifted upon turning in health insurance.
***Important Note***
You will be required to have health insurance even if you are not registered for classes and have an I-20 issued by NSU.
If you return to your home country during the summer break, you will not be required to retain your health insurance.
If you are in the U.S. for the summer semester, you are required to have health insurance.
