As Coordinator & International Student Advisor, what you do do?

I serve as the Coordinator and International Student Advisor for the Office of International Programs. I primarily advise all international students coming to NSU and make sure they are ready to start their educational journey here at Northeastern State! I also assist with international recruitment and planning events for international students. I have been in this position since July 2021.

What do you enjoy most about being at NSU?

The thing I most enjoy about NSU is the sense of community amongst students, faculty, and staff. Being here for the past few years, I met my best friends here and made some great connections with the NSU community. Everyone is willing to help and make sure people feel welcomed on our campus.

What inspires you about NSU?

Something that inspires me about NSU is seeing the success stories of students who have found their "home" when they come to college. Whether it is a high school senior who is about to start college, a transfer student, or an international student, it is so awesome to see these students come to our university and see them succeed here.

Erik MacarenoAs the GA Study Abroad Coordinator, what do you do?

As a study abroad coordinator, my duties consist of meeting with students who are interested in studying abroad and working with them to find which options work best for them. I am responsible for hosting study abroad information seminars/information sessions as well as work closely with other study abroad coordinators on pre-departure orientations, admissions, and recruitment.

What do you enjoy most about being at NSU?

What is there not to love about NSU? Since I first came to tour the campus in 2018, I have had nothing but good experiences with NSU students and faculty. What really makes this community special is the dedication that we all commit into making campus feel like home. Another beautiful aspect of our campus is the natural scenery, which you simply can't find anywhere else. I couldn't ask for a better place!

What inspires you about NSU?

NSU has always stood out to me as one of the most beautiful campuses in the State of Oklahoma. The natural scenery found all around campus has been one of my biggest occupational inspirations. As a public health student, I am concerned with environmental sustainability and conservation on and off campus. NSU has done a wonderful job in ensuring that the beauty of campus is not only focused on the grand architecture of the classical buildings but at the same time, reflected by the protection of the amazing beauty of the natural environment. This, to me, makes my campus feel that much more like home.
