Tuesday, September 4, 2012 | 9 a.m. | President's Office (Conference Room)

September 2012 meetings began with a new structure of Cabinet members. The new structure will include the President, all Vice President s, and the Interim Executive Director of University and Governmental Relations. All were in attendance.

In addition, there will be an Extended Cabinet group that will meet once monthly. This group will include the above as well as the Special Assistant to the President, Athletics Director, Foundation Director, Faculty and Staff Council Chairs, and the President of the Northeastern State Government Association (NSGA).

University Planning Committee

Dr. Dave Kern provided an update on the focus of the UPC for the next few months, which will be the subject of the September 13th UPC meeting scheduled for 2-3 p.m. in rooms BAAS 215 and SH 204 (ITV):

Items on the agenda will be:

  • Explore ideas to provide assistance and support for the Campus Wide Recruitment and Retention Plan;
  • Continue to monitor and encourage progress on active University Action Projects, and encourage development of proposed projects;
  • Participate in the preparation for the new strategic plan scheduled to start in April;
  • Provide recommendations to the Cabinet for UPC members whose term expires in December, and for the UPC chair person.

The status of the six (6) University Action Projects carried over from the prior year was briefly discussed as well as the status of new proposals. A full review of University Action Projects will be scheduled for the November UPC meeting.

Capital Project Update

Mr. Foutch reported that all projects are progressing as planned. See below for list of activities and progress to date.

Administration Building Roof Replacement

  • Phase 1 tear off and unit replacement underway.

UC Market Caf Remodel

  • Building dried in.
  • Window frames installation complete.
  • Glass to be installed the week of 09/03/12.

Press Box Remodel

  • VCT flooring will be installed the week of 09/03/12.
  • Remainder of project is on hold until after the season is complete.

Multi Purpose Event Center

  • Perimeter foundation concrete pours ongoing.
  • Detention pond excavation is cut to grade.
  • Storm water road crossing scheduled for completion the week of 09/10/12.
  • Storm water runoff and storm sewer progressing on schedule.
  • Steel material bid awarded.
  • Steel erection re-bid underway .

Library Grant A & F

  • Sheet rock installation complete.
  • MEP rough-ins in progress.
  • Door frames on sight.

Fitness Center Pool Deck Repair

  • Pool deck repair to begin week of 09/17/12.

Financial Audit

Mr. Koehn informed the group that Crawford and Associates representatives are on campus assisting the Business Office in preparation for our next official audit in a couple of weeks. Departments will be notified of any changes and/or updates once the audit has been completed.

Banner Leave Accruals

Mr. Koehn began a preliminary discussion on leave reporting regarding the requirements of the Banner system. Continued discussions will follow once a report of findings has been determined.

University Committees

Lists are being finalized and notifications regarding new members will be sent out in the next few weeks.

HLC Final Report

President Turner reported that NSU received continued accreditation along with approval to expand distance education programs through the Higher Learner Commission. The next review will be planned for 2021-22. All involved were commended on efforts and dedication to the process.

Presidential Investiture

The Presidential Investiture is being planned for October 4, 2012. This event will be held in the Jack Dobbins Field House beginning at 1:30 p.m. and will last approximately one hour. Classes will be cancelled between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m. to allow faculty and students an opportunity to attend. There will be a reception in the UC at the conclusion of the program. Faculty participating in the procession will need to wear academic regalia. More details will follow by email in the next few days.

Creek Nation Initiatives

The Chief of the Creek Nation and President Turner met recently to discuss possible initiatives in programming with NSU. More details will follow as discussions continue and initiatives are finalized.
