President's Office - Conference Room
Cabinet was called to order by President Turner at 9:30 a.m. President Turner welcomed the group and commented on an exciting and busy time. Fall in underway and campus traffic is up.
Members present were: Dr. Steve Turner, Mr. David Koehn, Dr. Mark Arant, Dr. Laura Boren, and Mr. Ben Hardcastle
Members absent were: None
Enrollment Report: Dr. Boren updated the group on fall enrollment numbers. Enrollment continues to be down (.3%) in credit hour generation as compared to this same time last year. Enrollment numbers for First-time, Full-time Freshman and Graduate are showing increases. Final numbers will be reported as soon as possible.
Fitness Center: Dr. Boren reported the current FY15 budget for the Fitness Center. Points of interest noted included: Expanded service hours, group fitness classes, personal training offered. Beginning fall 2014, all students receive a membership. Faculty, Staff, and Community members will continue to pay a monthly rate. The group discussed needs once the new facility re-opens.
Event Center: Dr. Boren gave an overview of the scheduling/reservation process and outlined the efforts of the committee that established the guidelines. The group discussed how to handle special requests that are outside of the normal requests of the facility.
Arapaho Transition Update: Mr. Hardcastle reported that information will be sent out to campus this week announcing a December transition.
Web Policy: Mr. Hardcastle discussed the need to finalize a policy. He reported that work is being done to develop language that will be brought forward in the near future for discussion and approval.
Graphic Design Standards: Mr. Hardcastle reported that a draft policy will be forwarded to a Task Force group in September. More on this topic as it is made available.
Design Studio 2.0: Mr. Hardcastle reported that staff members are currently training on the software. There are test subjects working with Communications & Marketing staff for a hard opening in October 2014.
NSUtube: Mr. Hardcastle reported exciting new programming currently being distributed on the monitors around campus. The new programming is going well. The first step to place an event or information on the monitors is to work with Melissa Cloud to place the event/information on the university website. Communications & Marketing will then place the information on the system.
Policy Changes: President Turner reviewed policy changes or new policy requests recently emailed to the group from the Policy Committee. These included: Online Directory Photo and Title IX: Sexual Discrimination (Faculty/Staff). The group discussed the new online directory photo policy and updated statement on non-discrimination within the Title IX policy. At the conclusion of discussions, all approved the changes to move forward on both policies.
NSGA/Cabinet Meeting Proposal: The NSGA President submitted a proposal for meeting dates/times for the fall 2014 semester. The proposal requested the monthly meetings be held on either Tuesday or Thursday beginning at 8:30 a.m. The group discussed calendar dates and approved the request as proposed.
Signature Authority: President Turner handed out a revised version of the Signature Authority document for the group to review. It was decided that this topic was tabled until a later time.
Staff Development Day: This topic was tabled until a later date. Cabinet members are to present ideas for speakers at the next Cabinet meeting.
Announcements
President Turner reported that the Human Resources Director position is in the review of applicant process. Phone calls are currently being made to reduce the pool 4 or 5 that the Committee will evaluate and interview.
President Turner reported that all approved names and applications have been submitted to the Tahlequah Chamber for this year's class. The 2014-15 list of NSU representatives were identified from lists submitted by Cabinet members.
President Turner reported that a position announcement for the Director for the Center for Tribal Studies is being set up in the system. This position will be filled as soon as possible.
