June 2, 2015 Cabinet Meeting Notes

President's Office Conference Room
Cabinet was called to order by President Turner at 9:00 a.m.
Members present were: Dr. Steve Turner, Dr. Mark Arant, Mr. David Koehn, Mr. Hardcastle, and Dr. Jerrid Freeman
Members absent were: Dr. Laura Boren
Holiday Schedule for FY16
Mr. Koehn handed out a Holiday Schedule for review and approval. Questions arose regarding the July 4, 2016 holiday portion. Dr. Arant will investigate to see how the proposed schedule will impact the academic requirements and will report back to the group by email. The final schedule will be available on the Human Resources web page once approved.
Fine Arts/CASE Vinyl
Mr. Hardcastle handed out renderings of the window vinyl project currently underway for the Fine Arts and CASE buildings. The design encompasses the new theme including colors, look and feel. Once approved, the vinyl pieces will be ordered and placed on the windows facing Grand Avenue. It is expected that these can be installed by July 1.
Monument to Forgiveness
Mr. Hardcastle shared with the group that Francis Jansen, artist of a monument placed on Beta Field in for six months in 2001-2002 titled Transformation Through Forgiveness , has contacted NSU to gift the monument to the university. Jerry Cook will work with the NSU Foundation and Ms. Jansen to receive the gift. An appropriate location for the piece will be determined prior to the legal transfer taking place.
Playhouse LED-Purpose Statement
Mr. Hardcastle handed out a proposed purpose statement detailing the intent of the new LED sign that will be installed on the southwest corner of the NSU Playhouse. The statement also includes intended use by university departments as well as outside entities. University Relations will be responsible for managing the request and content system.
SWAG-This is Not a Bill
Mr. Hardcastle handed out a draft form including a statement of costs associated with promotional items (SWAG) provided to promote the university. Departments requesting SWAG will be provided the form so they can be aware of the costs of the items requested.
Stand Watie Treaty Events
Mr. Hardcastle updated the group on work being done to prepare for the upcoming 150th Anniversary of the Stand Watie Treaty events on June 22nd and 23rd. A reception will be held on the Tahlequah campus in the John Vaughan Library at 5:30 p.m. on June 22, 2015. A press event will be held at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City the following day at 1:30 p.m.
Enrollment Update
Dr. Freeman reported that overall enrollment numbers are down 2.4% as compared to last year. Numbers may be skewed since Orientation sessions began later this year than last. Numbers are currently up on the Broken Arrow campus. Efforts continue to contact current students that have not yet enrolled for the fall semester. Dr. Freeman also reported that the SOAR sessions are going great.
BA Dean Position Update
Dr. Arant reported that last Friday was Dr. Christee Jenlink's last official day at NSU. Dr. Pam Fly has been asked to serve as Interim Dean until a search is conducted.
VP Admin/Finance Candidate Interview Schedule Update
President Turner updated the group on interview schedules for the candidates next week. Information will be made available soon as faculty, staff and students will be invited to attend and provide feedback.
Announcements
Dr. Turner reported receiving a letter from the Tahlequah History Preservation Board asking for repairs to the Rosamund House. A reply letter was sent detailing information related to the architect's assessment previously received and budgeted funds for repairs.
Dr. Turner asked the status of demolition plans for the Willis lot. Mr. Koehn reported that no specific date has been set yet and Mr. Hardcastle reported that area residents will be officially notified once a date is selected.
