Executive Council Meeting Notes November 6, 2012

Executive Council was called to order by President Turner at 9:00 a.m.
Members present: Dr. Steve Turner, Dr. William Rugg, Mr. Tim Foutch, Dr. Laura Boren, Mr. Jerry Cook, Dr. Ron Cambiano, Ms. Peggy Glenn, Mr. Alex Khramov, and Mr. Tony Duckworth. Ms. Linda West attended for Denise Deason-Toyne.
Members not present: Mr. David Koehn, Dr. Denise Deason-Toyne, and Mr. Chuck Philpy.

Cabinet reviewed and approved cabinet notes from October 23.

Capital Project Update

Tim Foutch reported that all projects are progressing as planned. See below for detailed list of activities.

Administration Building Roof Replacement

  • All base level roofing complete
  • Metal gutter, soffit panels, and metal wall panel installation scheduled for completion 11/09/12
  • All HVAC units are on roof surface
  • HVAC System balancing to begin 11/08/12

UC Market Caf Remodel

  • Punch list items under review
  • Initial Health Department inspection complete
  • Roof installation repairs underway scheduled for completion 11/09/12
  • Soft opening scheduled for 11/19/12

Multi Purpose Event Center

  • Final slab concrete pour complete
  • Steel delivery to begin late November
  • Parking areas are to sub grade and will receive rock covering over the next few weeks
  • Storm water management system scheduled for completion week of 11/12/12

Library Grant A & F

  • Punch list items being addressed
  • Light switch adds are underway

Fitness Center Pool Deck Repair

  • Pool deck install complete
  • Awaiting delivery of epoxy coated rebar for deck support structure
  • Deck concrete pour postponed pending architect/engineer review of pool bowl surface and potential pool reconfiguration

Parking Phase 2 and 3

  • Phase 2 (Crafton Street) concrete is complete
  • Light pole installation is underway
  • Phase 3 (North Leoser) grading continuing
  • Concrete curb work to begin week of 11/05/12

MIAA Fall Sports Update/Overview

Tony Duckworth asked the group to help spread the word that the decision to move to the MIAA was good for NSU. He gave an update on the Football season and reflected on the yearly President's Cup game against UCO. The inaugural game was held in 1998. NSU has brought the Cup home for the past two years and will play UCO again this Saturday in Edmond. Mr. Duckworth also updated the group on the Soccer season. NSU has bid to host this year's Super Region 3 Men's Soccer Championship. More information will be provided when available.

Open Pathway Update

Bill Rugg updated the group on information gathered at a recent Open Pathway Conference. The official template will be made available in February 2013. Discussions will continue on needs and planning.

Computer Replacement Program

Jerry Cook introduced a computer request for replacement needs in the Communications and Marketing department. The request was tabled until such time that Dr. Turner, Mr. Cook and Mr. Koehn are able to discuss when Mr. Koehn returns.

Year End Fundraising Efforts

Peggy Glenn updated the group on activities that are ongoing. An activity is being planned in Optometry and will focus on the Les Walls Center for Low Vision. College meetings are being planned in the near future to get input and support. Activities are being planned for Employee Giving efforts. The Library has plans to rename a fund after Sarah Brick Archer. Information will be made available as activities are finalized.

New Web Interface

Peggy Glenn updated the group on a new web interface called I-Modules that will link to Banner allowing for ease of updating sites.

Emerald Ball 2012

Peggy Glenn informed the group that the 2012 Emerald Ball will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Former Miss America 1996, Shawntell Smith-Wuerch will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Invitations are being mailed out soon.

2013 Year's Academic Calendar

At the September 25th Executive Council meeting the group discussed changes to the 2013 Academic Calendar. Changes were made and presented to the group for final review and approval. The calendar was unanimously approved by the group. Academic Affairs will forward to the Chancellor's office.

Nigh Academy Nomination

The 16th Annual George and Donna Nigh Leadership Scholarship Academy is accepting nominations for students who demonstrate leadership qualities, high academic achievement and community involvement to represent NSU at the Nigh Leadership Academy in early March 2013. The selected student will attend the Academy and receive $1,000 in scholarship funds. Student Affairs will announce the nomination process. NSU's nomination must be submitted to the Academy by the December 15, 2012 deadline.

Recruitment/Retention Update

Steve Turner updated the group on the goals of the Complete College America initiative that is ongoing. While NSU did not meet the 55 degree goal, this year's report showed that NSU produced 33 more degrees than last year. Dr. Turner informed the group of a regional high school enrollment data collection survey that has been underway for the past two months. Based on collected data, the numbers of graduating high school seniors will increase over the next several years. NSU must enhance high school recruitment efforts in an attempt to attract more students. Survey data will be made available at a later date.

Additional Comments

Ron Cambiano informed the group of the successful Regional Economic Summit held October 30 & 31, 2012 at NSU-Tahlequah. With 360+ attendees, the event was well received. He expressed appreciation to University staff that assisted with the event.

Ron Cambiano complemented the Library staff for their assistance with the Indigenous Studies office since the move.
