Center for the Performing Arts | Tahlequah, Okla.

It's an honor to be here, and it's an honor to be representing over 9,000 students. And it's an honor to be on stage with this outstanding group of people.

Looking at this crowd, it's obvious that Northeastern State University touches the lives of thousands of people everyday, directly or indirectly. Institutions of higher education, especially NSU, are forces of wisdom, enfranchisement and hope. Today we are marking the beginning of a new chapter here at NSU, one with Dr. Steve Turner as president. I've already been seeing some exciting changes on campus.

The student body, through the student senate, voted overwhelmingly to commemorate this important day with the purchase from our Alumni Center, of a bench and dedication to be placed on campus. In hope that this gift will be a symbol for the commitment that students have to working with the administration and the new president to make NSU the best University it can possibly be.

No pressure, Dr. Turner.

That said,  I know the job of a university president is no easy one, but the students are excited, and I hope to see great things in the coming years.

Finally, I want to thank Dr. Turner, and his lovely wife Penny, for making my home -- Northeastern State University -- their home.
