Club Sports

What are Club Sports?

Club Sports are recognized student organizations, but they travel and compete with other collegiate club sports teams. Club sports are voluntary, so if you see a club sport that interests you, you may join and on the flip side, if you do not see the club sport you are interested in, you may start one. Club sports must have student officers and leaders to volunteer to organize, manage, and maintain the club. Clubs are required to have an advisor; the advisor may be either a staff/faculty advisor.

Sport Club Advisory Group if needed or wanted beyond an advisor.

How to start a Club Sport?

Each Club Sport must have the following:

  • Minimum of five participants
  • Obtain a faculty and/or staff advisor
  • Complete a student organization training for  Hawklife
  • Be approved as a student organization
  • Submit a club sport constitution and bylaws
  • Establish and maintain Club Sport officers (president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary)
  • Register your Club Sport on HawkLife (Contact Student Engagement for assistance 918-444-2526 or engagement@nsuok.edu)
  • Student Organization Handbook for Club Sports and Student Organizations

Clubs will be responsible for maintaining their budgets. They will need to fundraise but may apply for additional funding.

NSU Fishing Team

Advisor: Chris Adney
The NSU Fishing Team is a group of collegiate anglers trying to make a name for our school and community in the bass fishing world. Our goal is to promote the sport of fishing, our school, and our sponsors while competing in the sport we love.  Teams of two go out in competitive tournaments and try and catch the biggest bag of bass, while competing against many schools from all over the country.

Esports

Advisor: Tyler Utt
RiverHawk Esports is a club that is devoted to helping students not only learn about the esports field but also begin the steps toward creating a career.

This is accomplished in several different ways by:

  • Inviting coaches to campus
  • allowing students to broadcast games
  • creating graphics and overlays for streams and videos created by the club
  • hands on pc repair practice

It also allows students to take up leadership positions in subjects that interest them not normally available to them.
