Steps to Use VA Benefits at NSU
Future military-connected and veteran students can follow the steps below to begin using VA benefits at Northeastern State University.
Step 1: Apply for VA Education Benefits at va.gov
This application is completed through the VA. Processing can take up to 30 days. Once
approved, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
Step 2: Apply for Admission to Northeastern State University
Submit your application for admission and all required documents through the NSU Admissions
Office. You may email veterans@nsuok.edu to request an application fee waiver code.
Step 3: Schedule an Appointment with an Academic Advisor
After being admitted, schedule an appointment with an academic advisor to enroll in
courses that apply to your degree program. Be sure to inform your advisor that you
plan to use VA education benefits.
Step 4: Submit Required Documents to Veterans Services
Email a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to veterans@nsuok.edu. If you are using Chapter 31 (VR&E), email a copy of your authorization or purchase
order from your VR&E counselor.
Step 5: Submit Your Veterans Information Sheet Each Semester
Complete and submit the Veterans Information Sheet each semester you plan to use VA
education benefits. This form is required before your enrollment can be certified.
What to Expect After You Submit Documents
After you submit your required documents, Veterans Services will review your information and certify your enrollment with the VA.
Certification is completed after you are enrolled in classes and all required documents have been received.
The VA will process your certification and issue payments based on your enrollment and benefit type. Processing times may vary.
The VA School Certifying Official is not able to view your payment status or deposit dates. For payment questions, contact the VA Education Call Center at 1-888-442-4551.
Students are responsible for monitoring their NSU email and VA communications for updates.
